Demonstrating exceptional leadership both on and off the pitch, Bangladesh national team midfielder and Sheffield United captain Hamza Choudhury has set a powerful humanitarian example. The star footballer has raised over £100,000 (approximately BDT 1.65 crore) to finance emergency medical evacuation and advanced surgical treatment for injured and critically ill children in war-torn Gaza.
Organized in partnership with Nujum Sports, the funds collected through this special charity campaign will be transferred directly to the international humanitarian organization ‘Children Not Numbers’.
The collected funds will be used to evacuate children who have suffered limb loss or life-threatening injuries due to airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, bringing them to safe third countries for complex surgeries and specialized medical rehabilitation.
Sharing an emotional message on social media, Hamza wrote: “In comparison to the immense suffering of the people in Gaza, this help may seem very small, but no matter how small, every effort can bring change.” He also offered prayers for enduring peace and security for the affected civilians in Gaza.
While receiving widespread acclaim for his off-pitch humanitarian work, attention also turns to the Bangladesh national team as they prepare for the SAFF Championship 2026, commencing in Dhaka on November 5. Bangladesh will face Bhutan in the tournament opener.
Due to pressing club commitments with English side Sheffield United, Hamza will miss Bangladesh’s opening fixture against Bhutan. However, he is scheduled to land in Dhaka on November 9 as the FIFA international window opens to join the national squad for the remainder of the tournament.
