Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s official visit to Japan was highly effective and fruitful, elevating bilateral relations between Dhaka and Tokyo to new heights, stated State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday (October 30) following the conclusion of the head of government’s four-day visit to Japan, the State Minister highlighted key diplomatic achievements, including the signing of six Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). He further announced that Japan will soon dispatch a high-level Economic Mission to Bangladesh to evaluate sectoral opportunities and oversee the implementation of the pledged $6.35 billion investment package.
To realize the historic $6.35 billion investment proposal announced during the Prime Minister’s visit, the Japanese government will imminently send a specialized Economic Mission to Dhaka to inspect ground conditions and finalize sector-specific projects.
State Minister Humayun Kabir clarified that discussions surrounding the Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth Belt (‘Big-B’) initiative focused purely on bilateral matters, with no reference to or involvement of any third nation. He emphasized that if discussions involving another state ever become necessary, Bangladesh will engage openly in their direct presence.
Reaffirming the administration’s foreign policy principles, the State Minister declared: “The BNP government will not sign any agreement with any superpower or foreign state that dishonors the interests of our land and people or compromises national sovereignty.”
