Heightening tension across the border tourism hub of Sajek in Rangamati, the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Protection Committee has announced a 48-hour counter-blockade on the Sajek tourism road, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday (November 4 and 5, 2026).
Member Secretary of the organization, Bindu Lal Chakma, issued the strike declaration through a press release sent to the media on Tuesday (November 3). The counter-blockade has cast severe uncertainty over the resumption of tourist travel and local transport operations along the Sajek route.
The CHT Protection Committee stated that the ongoing indefinite blockade called by the Sajek Gono Adhikar Rekha Committee and the Sajek Karbari Association has severely disrupted local tourism, business operations, and daily public life. Local farmers are incurring devastating financial losses as perishable agricultural produce from Jhum cultivation cannot be transported to markets, while resort owners and transport workers face economic ruin due to the complete absence of tourists.
The initial indefinite road blockade called by the Sajek Gono Adhikar Rekha Committee and Karbari Association began on October 22. Although relaxed for a single day on November 1, the strike was re-enforced on November 2, triggering this counter-movement by the CHT Protection Committee.
The CHT Protection Committee confirmed that emergency services—including ambulances carrying patients, Fire Service vehicles, press/media cars, and transports carrying essential food items and medical supplies—will remain strictly outside the purview of the 48-hour blockade.
