Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman, a Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), has been appointed as a full-time member of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC).
On Sunday, December 8, the Ministry of Education’s Secondary and Higher Education Division issued a notification appointing him for a four-year term.
Professor Saidur Rahman has been appointed under four conditions:
- His tenure will last for four years, but the government reserves the right to relieve him of his duties before the completion of the term if deemed necessary.
- He will receive the salary and benefits equal to his most recent position prior to this appointment.
- As a member of the commission, he will be entitled to other benefits as per existing regulations.
- The appointment will take effect from the date he assumes office.
Following the resignation of the UGC Chairman and all members on August 5, former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, SM Faiz, was appointed as the Chairman. Two additional members have since been appointed. With Saidur Rahman’s appointment, the commission now has three members, with one position still vacant.
