Police have confirmed that miscreants attacked, vandalized, and attempted to set fire to the ancestral home of former Bangladesh national cricket team captain and former Awami League Member of Parliament for Magura-1, Shakib Al Hasan.
The incident took place around 9:00 PM on Wednesday (August 6) at Shakib’s family residence located in the Keshab Mor area of Magura town.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Magura Sadar Police Station, Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, said, “A group of miscreants hurled brickbats, breaking the window panes of the house. At one point, they also attempted to set the house on fire.”
However, major damage was averted due to the alertness and prompt intervention of local residents. The identities of those involved could not be immediately determined. Following the incident, additional police forces were deployed around the house to prevent further escalation and ensure overall security, the OC added.
Notably, earlier on Wednesday evening, Shakib Al Hasan virtually attended an interactive session with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, organized by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia in New Delhi, India. The attack on his residence occurred just a few hours after news of his participation in that event surfaced.
