With Bangladesh’s batting lineup facing a severe collapse ahead of the main Test series on Australian soil, vice-captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz stepped up as the team’s savior. On the opening day of the three-day warm-up match against the Cricket Australia XI in Darwin, Miraz played a brilliant unbeaten innings of 109 runs to propel his side toward a respectable total.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Bangladesh’s top-order batters struggled to adapt to local conditions, leaving the visitors reeling at a precarious 110 for 6 at one stage.
In the face of a collapse, Miraz showcased exceptional responsibility, building key partnerships with the lower order to anchor the innings. He remained unbeaten on 109 off 141 balls. On the back of his fighting century, Bangladesh managed to reach 263 before being bowled out in 75.5 overs.
This match serves as Bangladesh’s sole warm-up fixture prior to the upcoming two-Test series against Australia. While most of the top-order batters missed out on a prime opportunity to acclimatize to the conditions, Miraz’s sublime form provides a major confidence boost for the Bangladesh camp heading into the main series.
