Ahead of facing world-class pacers like Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, the Bangladesh cricket team suffered a severe batting collapse in their three-day warm-up match against the Cricket Australia (CA) XI at Marrara Oval in Darwin. The visitors crashed to a heavy defeat by an innings and 38 runs, bundled out for just 54 in their second innings against an inexperienced Australian bowling attack, despite a first-innings total of 263 anchored by Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s century.
This dismal performance by the batting lineup serves as a major blow and a stern warning for the Bangladesh camp ahead of the first Test scheduled to begin on August 13 in Darwin.
Resuming the final day at 19 for 2, Bangladesh lost their remaining eight wickets in just 17 overs. Uncapped 22-year-old left-arm pacer Campbell Thompson—who had played only two first-class matches prior—dismantled the Bangladeshi lineup by taking 8 wickets for just 25 runs. Off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli claimed the remaining two wickets.
Opener Tanzid Hasan (22) was the sole Bangladeshi batter to reach double figures. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, Taskin Ahmed, and Ebadot Hossain were all dismissed for ducks, while no other batter managed to score more than 6 runs.
