Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has stepped forward to assist families who lost their homes in the devastating floods in Assam, India. In collaboration with the non-profit organization Global Sikhs, he has launched the “Ashiana” rehabilitation initiative to construct 500 flood-resilient semi-kutcha houses for affected families.
On Friday (August 7), Indian media outlet Bollywood Hungama confirmed that following an initial phase of distributing urgent relief supplies such as food, Salman Khan’s charitable trust, Being Human, is now focusing on long-term rehabilitation for the second phase.
According to the report, Salman Khan reached out after seeing actor Randeep Hooda working directly on the ground alongside volunteers in the flood-affected regions. Through Randeep, Salman contacted Amarpreet Singh, founder of Global Sikhs, to learn about the urgent shelter requirements of the displaced families.
Subsequently, the “Ashiana” project was officially announced in partnership with 70 volunteers from Global Sikhs. Reassuring the organization, Salman stated, “Don’t worry.” Once the construction of all 500 homes is complete, hundreds of flood-affected families are expected to gain a safe refuge and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
