Tollywood’s iconic and highly celebrated on-screen duo, Dev and Subhashree Ganguly, are set to return to the silver screen together in the upcoming film ‘Deshu 7’, marking an end to an 11-year hiatus and dynamic personal history. However, this project introduces a new dynamic: beyond being co-stars, Subhashree is acting under Dev’s directorial debut.
On Wednesday (August 19), marking the final day of the film’s principal photography, Subhashree shared an emotional open letter addressed to Dev across her social media handles, which quickly went viral among cinema enthusiasts.
In her open letter, Subhashree reflected on how both artists began their cinematic journeys around the same time, though this particular experience proved entirely distinct. While she was accustomed to seeing Dev as a leading actor, witnessing his transition into shaping narrative vision behind the camera was a fresh revelation.
Subhashree candidly admitted feeling a slight touch of initial envy seeing how seamlessly Dev mastered the intricacies of screenwriting and direction despite his established acting career. However, as filming progressed, that feeling evolved into genuine admiration and inspiration.
She expressed optimism that upon the release of ‘Deshu 7’, the Tollywood industry would gain a new-age filmmaker capable of balancing commercial entertainment with authentic storytelling. Starring alongside Anirban Bhattacharya and Priyanka Sarkar, the film is slated for a theatrical release on October 16 to mark the Durga Puja festivities.
