Following Bangladesh’s historic Test victory over Australia, head coach Phil Simmons has advised his team to keep their emotions in check ahead of the second Test in Mackay. The Tigers registered a landmark 9-wicket victory against top-ranked Australia in the first Test at Darwin. However, the Caribbean coach urged his players to put aside the initial euphoria and maintain a pragmatic mindset.
The 63-year-old Trinidadian, who has coached five international sides—including Ireland, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, and West Indies—described the victory in Darwin as the greatest Test achievement of his coaching career.
Despite nationwide celebrations following the historic achievement, Simmons reminded the players of the larger objective ahead. He cautioned that Australia would come back stronger after the defeat in the opening match.
Speaking to reporters after a training session, Simmons noted: “People in Bangladesh are a bit too emotional, but I am not like that at all. It’s easy for me to control my feelings, though it’s harder for them. But with three days to settle, the boys have gathered themselves well.”
With the initial celebrations behind them, Bangladesh will step onto the field in Mackay on Saturday morning with full focus on securing a historic series win.
