Today marks the 50th death anniversary of Bangladesh’s National Poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam—a symbol of equality, humanity, and progress. The iconic literary figure passed away in Dhaka on the 12th of Bhadra, 1383 (Bengali calendar).
On the occasion of his death anniversary, the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, along with teachers, students, officials, staff, and leaders of various political parties, paid tribute by placing floral wreaths at the poet’s grave adjacent to the Dhaka University Central Mosque. Following the tribute, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam stated, “From anti-autocracy movements to any struggle for rights, Nazrul has been the core source of inspiration.”
Paying his respects, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi noted, “During the July 2024 movement to resist fascism, students took to the streets singing Nazrul’s songs. Poet Nazrul remains the source of strength for everyone in resisting injustice and establishing justice.”
Kazi Nazrul Islam did not merely enrich Bengali literature; he openly defied social injustice, oppression, and intimidation to spread the message of revolution.
Inspiration Across Generations: From the July 2024 Uprising to every historical movement for democracy and rights in Bangladesh, Nazrul’s poetry and music continue to awaken and empower the youth.
