Real Madrid kicked off their new La Liga home campaign in emphatic fashion with a resounding victory at the Santiago Bernabéu, thrashing visiting Real Sociedad 4-1 courtesy of a stellar hat-trick from Kylian Mbappé.
Despite a sluggish opening performance from Los Blancos in the first half, Mbappé broke the deadlock in the 40th minute off a fine assist from Federico Valverde. However, the lead was short-lived as a costly mistake by defender Carreras allowed Real Sociedad to equalize just four minutes later.
Tactical adjustments at halftime turned the tide completely. Manager José Mourinho subbed off Carreras for Marc Cucurella, sparking a swift revival in Real Madrid’s tempo. Controlling possession, attack quality, and expected goals (xG), Mbappé restored the lead in the 60th minute with his second of the night. In the 68th minute, Vinícius Júnior tapped in a third goal following brilliant build-up play by Jude Bellingham. Vinícius then provided the assist in the 80th minute for Mbappé to complete his hat-trick and seal the 4-1 rout.
Mourinho’s Decisive Sub: After a defensive lapse cost them a goal in the first half, manager José Mourinho made immediate tactical adjustments at the break, handing full control of the pitch back to Real Madrid.
Top of the Table: With back-to-back victories under Mourinho’s leadership, Real Madrid firmly consolidates its spot at the top of the La Liga standings, while Real Sociedad faces early pressure following two consecutive losses.
