The Opposition staged a walkout from the third session of the 13th National Parliament, alleging that they were denied the opportunity to discuss pressing public grievances, including the energy crisis and the non-implementation of the referendum mandate.
On Thursday night (August 27, 2026) around 8:00 PM, Leader of the Opposition Dr. Shafiqur Rahman announced the walkout following a sharp critique of the ruling party’s conduct inside the parliament chamber.
Addressing the house, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated, “We submitted four notices to speak on behalf of the public. We hope that in the interest of alleviating public suffering, these notices will see the light of day so that we may get a chance to debate. However, given the current circumstances, we are walking out of this session.”
Rejection of Special Session Request: The Opposition Leader criticized the government for ignoring their request to convene a special parliamentary session to address deteriorating law and order and the national energy emergency.
Statistics vs. Field Reality: Arguing that ground-level realities completely contradict the optimistic statistics presented by the government in parliament, he emphasized that the Opposition refused to be part of a one-sided parliamentary process.
