Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has urged opposition members not to walk out of the National Parliament over minor excuses. He made these remarks on Thursday (August 27, 2026) immediately following the walkout announcement by Leader of the Opposition Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. Addressing the opposition, the Home Minister said, “Let us keep this parliament alive and vibrant by conducting all discussions right here. We should not walk out on trivial pretexts. This only harms democracy. If we fail to make this parliament functional, democracy will repeatedly stumble, and history will hold the opposition responsible for it.”Speaking to reporters outside the parliament building later, the Home Minister clarified that there were no procedural or legal violations in tabling government bills, noting that ample opportunity remains for detailed discussion. He further added that by abstaining from the Constitution Reform Commission, the opposition has ultimately deprived and betrayed the public.
Focal Point for Debate and Resolution: The Home Minister emphasized that the public expects the government and opposition to sit face-to-face in Parliament to debate, negotiate, and resolve national issues.
Call for Constructive Participation: He asserted that repeatedly boycotting sessions rather than actively participating in legislative debates runs contrary to parliamentary decorum and the core spirit of the July Uprising.
