Tottenham Hotspur secured a dominant 5-1 victory over Charlton at home in the EFL Cup (Carabao Cup) to comfortably advance to the next round.
Despite dominating possession from the kickoff, Spurs had to wait until the 41st minute for their breakthrough, when Mikey Moore opened the scoring. Just four minutes later, striker Dominic Solanke doubled the lead right before halftime.
Tottenham’s attacking momentum intensified in the second half. Kevin Danso made it 3-0 in the 67th minute, followed by substitute new signing Savinho extending the scoreline to 4-0 in the 82nd minute. Ben Davies added Spurs’ fifth goal in the 85th minute. Lloyd Jones pulled one back for Charlton in the 87th minute, but it proved to be nothing more than a late consolation.
Victories for Everton and Newcastle: Everton cruised to a convincing 4-0 victory over Preston FC, while Newcastle held on for a thrilling 3-2 win against West Brom.
Burnley Eliminated: Burnley suffered an early exit from the tournament after falling to underdog Bradford in a penalty shootout following a draw in regulation time.
