Despite persistent rain and overcast conditions limiting play to just 25 overs on Day 3 at Lord’s, host England extended their dominance. Pakistan now faces a monumental task, trailing by a massive lead of 357 runs with a daunting fourth-innings chase looming ahead.
Pakistani paceman Mohammad Ali openly admitted that the team’s first-innings batting collapse put them on the back foot early on. Although the bowlers mounted a disciplined comeback in the second innings to reduce England to 177/7, chasing down such a sizable total on a Lord’s pitch marked by uneven bounce and swing is widely considered an uphill battle. Nevertheless, the touring side remains hopeful of a miracle to stay alive in the series.
Mohammad Ali acknowledged that conceding a huge first-innings deficit was the primary blow, though the bowling unit adapted well in the second innings by hitting consistent channels.
Having accumulated only 417 runs across three innings in the series so far, Ali remains optimistic: “Miracles happen all the time in cricket. It is undoubtedly difficult, but not impossible—we must stay hopeful until the final ball is bowled.”
