Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has adopted a strict zero-tolerance posture along the Benapole border in Jashore to halt the illegal smuggling of chemical fertilizers from Bangladesh into India and to block any unlawful “push-in” attempts across the frontier. The 49 BGB Battalion has officially alerted local residents along the border area to refrain from illicit movement and to cooperate in curtailing all forms of cross-border crime.
On Thursday (September 3, 2026), Subedar Md. Abdul Kader, Company Commander of the Benapole ICP Camp, formally announced these stringent measures during an awareness meeting with residents living adjacent to the border line. He emphasized that the smuggling of agricultural fertilizers will not be tolerated under any circumstances to safeguard domestic agricultural interests. He further assured that BGB personnel remain on high alert 24/7 to foil any attempt to illegally push individuals into Bangladesh from the Indian side.
To maintain operational security along the frontier, the BGB has issued a series of directives for local communities. Residents have been instructed to avoid approaching the Zero Line during evening hours, refrain from unauthorized entry into India, keep livestock away from the immediate border perimeter, and completely cease leasing or cultivating agricultural land across the Indian border. In addition, intelligence surveillance and armed patrols have been intensified to combat smuggling operations involving narcotics, gold, cattle, and human trafficking.
