Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, M Rashiduzzaman Millat, has publicly expressed deep regret following a traffic violation involving his official vehicle. Speaking after his car was cited and fined by traffic police for driving on the wrong side of the road, the Minister emphasized the equal application of the law across the nation, stating that legal standards will not be relaxed for anyone in a transformed Bangladesh.
Addressing journalists outside the National Parliament building late Thursday night (September 3, 2026), the Aviation Minister voiced his sincere apologies for the incident. He asserted that the current administration under Tarique Rahman will not allow preferential treatment for high-ranking state officials or ministers, contrasting it with autocratic practices of the past. He highlighted that holding a sitting minister accountable for breaking traffic rules reflects the core principle of the new political era.
The incident occurred earlier on Thursday morning along Circuit House Road in Dhaka, where traffic sergeants filed two separate cases against the Minister’s vehicle for reckless driving against the flow of traffic, imposing a combined fine of BDT 6,000. Legal analysts and administrative experts view this directly cited traffic case against a sitting cabinet minister as an unprecedented and groundbreaking step toward institutional accountability in Bangladesh’s history.
