The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is not being canceled; rather, it will be postponed slightly to ensure the execution of a well-organized, transparent, and ‘neat and clean’ tournament, announced Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Tamim Iqbal. The delay is being utilized to establish a permanent structural framework for the BPL and formulate a viable revenue-sharing model.
Addressing a crowded press conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday (September 3, 2026), the BCB President confirmed these administrative decisions. Tamim noted that operational lapses over the past two to three seasons have been evaluated. To preserve tournament integrity, he stressed avoiding controversial and non-transparent franchise allocations, specifically citing the example of a franchise from Rajshahi. The BCB chief reiterated his commitment to making tough administrative choices in the interest of domestic cricket, regardless of external opinions.
During the conference, the BCB President unveiled a historic financial restructuring for domestic cricketers. Match fees for both male and female players have been significantly increased. For male cricketers, four-day match fees have been set at BDT 1.5 lakh, One Day International (List-A) fees at BDT 1 lakh, and T20 fees at BDT 80,000. For female cricketers, four-day match fees have been set at BDT 40,000, List-A fees at BDT 30,000, and T20 fees at BDT 20,000. Under this structure, a domestic cricketer can earn between BDT 35 to 40 lakh per season. Furthermore, following productive discussions with the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (COAB), Tamim called for enhanced professionalism among players. He also announced salary reviews for umpires, coaches, and physios, along with plans to construct a 110-meter athletic track at the Academy Ground.
