Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain issued an unprecedented warning against administrative irregularities and medical negligence during a surprise inspection at Mugda General Hospital in the capital. Declaring a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, he stated, “Either I will remain in office, or corruption and irregularities in hospitals will stay—negligence in medical care will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”
On Friday afternoon (September 11, 2026), the Health Minister personally inspected various emergency units, including the dengue ward at Mugda General Hospital. During the visit, he interacted directly with admitted patients and their relatives. Expressing deep frustration, victims reported the unavailability of doctors during urgent needs, alongside severe negligence and lack of cooperation from attending nurses.
Assuring immediate corrective action upon hearing patient grievances, the Health Minister announced that the government has procured 40 million vaccines to combat measles, with a nationwide special immunization campaign scheduled to launch on September 25. Furthermore, to bolster public health safeguards, a three-month nationwide cleanliness drive will commence on Saturday (September 12, 2026). Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will officially inaugurate the initiative from the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building.
