Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will depart Dhaka for New York on September 21, 2026, to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir confirmed the schedule while briefing reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday afternoon (September 13, 2026).
The State Minister noted that during his address to the UNGA, the Prime Minister will formally outline Bangladesh’s new political and economic vision, national priorities, and future global partnership frameworks. This marks his first major international address and high-level diplomatic outing before global leaders at the UN since the administration assumed office.
State Minister Humayun Kabir added that alongside attending the general debate in New York, the Prime Minister is scheduled to participate in several high-level sideline meetings and bilateral sessions with heads of state and government. Responding to queries regarding a potential bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump, the State Minister emphasized that while the primary objective of the visit is to deliver Bangladesh’s policy address at the UNGA, preparations remain in place for bilateral discussions with key global partners.
