Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, spokesperson for the National Citizens’ Committee (NCP), has strongly denied the fresh allegations brought by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) regarding the laundering of ৳11,000 crore to various countries, including Australia, Dubai, and Singapore. He claimed that due to a lack of necessary institutional reforms, the ACC continues to be weaponized as a political tool just as it was in the past.
He made these assertions during an emergency press conference organized at the NCP central office in Banglamotor, Dhaka, on Sunday afternoon (September 13, 2026).
Launching a scathing critique of the government’s economic policies and failure to generate employment, Asif Mahmud stated that while the current administration had pledged one crore jobs for the youth prior to assuming power, it has instead created employment for 50 lakh of its own party activists by opening avenues for extortion. Furthermore, he highlighted the public street rallies of the banned political outfit, the Awami League, as a severe threat to public safety and property. Expressing frustration, he noted the absence of any visible, effective efforts on the ground by the BNP to counter the activities and chaotic demonstrations of the banned organization.
Laying out the roadmap for upcoming elections, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwary announced that the NCP has decided to contest the upcoming local government elections independently. However, he issued a stern warning that if any reactionary forces attempt to occupy polling centers or commit electoral irregularities, the eleven allied parties of the simultaneous movement will unite to resist them on the streets.
