Experienced right-back Bishwanath Ghosh has been ruled out of the Bangladesh national squad for the upcoming FIFA ASEAN Cup in Indonesia. Despite being included in the preliminary squad for the tournament—scheduled from September 25 to October 5—the 27-year-old defender will miss the event following a severe hamstring injury.
After experiencing pain during practice last Thursday, the defender underwent an ultrasonography (USG) scan on Saturday following medical advice. The test revealed a muscle tear, leading doctors to recommend three to four weeks of complete rest and rehabilitation. With the national team set to depart for host nation Indonesia on September 19, Bishwanath was forced to leave the training camp ahead of schedule.
Speaking to The Daily Star regarding his injury and departure from the squad, Bishwanath said, “I left the camp today due to the hamstring injury. According to the physio and doctor’s advice, it will take three and a half to four weeks to fully recover and return to the pitch. I didn’t feel as bad when leaving camp, but seeing the muscle tear in the scan report was genuinely heartbreaking.” Approximately 29 players are currently training under new head coach Thomas Dooley, who will soon announce the final 23-man squad.
