A crude bomb (cocktail) exploded directly outside the main entrance of the Supreme Court, shortly after the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) sentenced seven absconding leaders—including former Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader—to death for crimes against humanity committed during the July–August mass uprising.
The explosion occurred on Tuesday afternoon (September 15, 2026), right in front of the gate primarily used by the Chief Justice and other senior judges. Coming just minutes after the landmark tribunal verdict, the blast triggered widespread panic across the apex court premises and surrounding areas.
Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage retrieved immediately after the incident shows two individuals riding past the Supreme Court on a motorcycle at high speed. As the vehicle reached Gate No. 1, the pillion rider hurled a crude bomb toward the main entrance before speeding away. The device detonated with a loud report, producing thick smoke.
Police officials confirmed the incident, stating that multiple investigative units have begun analyzing CCTV footage to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Following the explosion, law enforcement agencies deployed additional police and intelligence personnel around the Supreme Court and adjacent sensitive key point installations (KPIs) to bolster security.
