Government Announces Masterplan to Revitalize Tourism Sector: Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister
Stating that no groundbreaking development work has taken place in the country’s tourism sector over the last two decades, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat announced the government’s integrated masterplan and strategic initiatives to revitalize the industry.
He made these remarks as the chief guest during his address at the colorful inauguration ceremony of the 3-day 13th Asian Tourism Fair held on Thursday (September 17, 2026) at the International Convention City Vasundhara (ICCB) in Kuril, Dhaka.
During his speech, the Tourism Minister stated, “Despite our immense tourism potential over the last 20 years, no noteworthy work could be accomplished. The current government aims to transform this sector into a primary driver of economic growth. To achieve this objective, efforts to develop Cox’s Bazar into a modern, international tourism hub are moving forward rapidly.” He further emphasized that alongside strengthening special security protocols for both foreign and domestic tourists, infrastructural facilities will be expanded significantly.
Highlighting the government’s economic projections, the minister shared that a clear target has been set to raise the tourism sector’s contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to 8% from its current level. At the same time, he laid the utmost emphasis on Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to attract private sector investment and reduce dependence on government funding.
It is worth noting that nearly 300 stalls and pavilions from more than 200 renowned tourism organizations across various Asian countries, including Bangladesh, are participating in this year’s Asian Tourism Fair. Alongside attractive tour package exhibitions, the event features Business-to-Business (B2B) networking sessions for international tour operators as well as vibrant cultural performances.
