Advocating for an 8-point demand centered on regional development and eliminating socio-economic disparities in northern Bangladesh, an 11-party alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami launched a long march from Dhaka to Rangpur.
The program officially flagged off on Saturday morning (September 19, 2026) following a massive inaugural rally at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and head of the 11-party alliance, presided over the opening rally. Top leaders, central committee members, and thousands of activists representing the constituent parties attended the event.
Delivering directive speeches to gathered supporters, alliance leaders pledged to overcome all obstacles to ensure the success of the long march in the public interest. Leaders urged activists to maintain law and order throughout the journey and refrain from responding to any provocations.
According to the announced itinerary, the long march route spans Dhaka, Gazipur, Tangail, Sirajganj, Bogura, Gaibandha, and Rangpur. The coalition will hold seven public rallies and five street corner meetings along the route, culminating in a grand closing rally at the Rangpur Zilla School ground.
