The Bangladesh women’s cricket team’s dream of clinching Asian Games gold came to an end following a heavy 114-run defeat to India in the semi-finals. A blistering unbeaten century by Indian opener Shafali Verma dashed Nigar Sultana Joty’s side out of the final race. However, the Tigresses still have an opportunity to secure a podium finish, as they prepare to face arch-rivals Pakistan in the third-place bronze medal match.
India opted to bat first after winning the toss at the Nishin Korogi Sports Park Ground on Sunday (September 20, 2026).
Powered by Shafali Verma’s explosive century, India posted a formidable total of 195/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Verma anchored the innings with a stellar unbeaten 100.
Chasing a daunting target of 196 runs, the Bangladeshi batting line-up collapsed under intense pressure from the Indian bowling attack. The entire team was bowled out for just 81 runs—less than Shafali Verma’s individual score—with eight batters failing to reach double digits.
Bangladesh previously suffered a similar semi-final defeat to India in the Asia Cup. Despite missing out on the final, Nigar Sultana’s side will return to action on Tuesday (September 22, 2026) to battle Pakistan for the bronze medal. On the same day, India and Sri Lanka will clash in the mega final for gold.
