Senior Supreme Court advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir has clarified that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami holds no organizational involvement or official position regarding Member of Parliament (MP) GM Nazrul Islam (Satkhira-4), who was taken into police custody following the death of a woman named Morium Khatun in a NAM building apartment in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.
Advocate Shishir Manir made the party’s legal and organizational stance clear on Monday afternoon (September 21, 2026) while responding to queries from reporters in front of the Supreme Court Annex Building.
Advocate Shishir Manir stated that MP Gazi Nazrul had previously been expelled from Jamaat-e-Islami due to serious allegations of moral turpitude. Consequently, he maintains no political or organizational ties with the party. He emphasized, “The state, law enforcement agencies, and the country’s prevailing judicial system will take legal action against him according to the law; the party has no interference or statement in this matter.”
Addressing questions regarding whether Gazi Nazrul would retain his seat in parliament following his expulsion, Shishir Manir noted that the matter rests entirely within the legal jurisdiction and discretion of the Honorable Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad and the Election Commission (EC).
