As part of a long-term strategy to modernize and expand the fleet of national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the government is set to purchase 10 new aircraft from the European aviation giant Airbus (France), alongside its acquisitions from US manufacturer Boeing. The highly anticipated bilateral agreement is scheduled for formal signing this October.
Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat confirmed this major strategic decision for the nation’s aviation sector.
Bangladesh has also finalized major aircraft acquisition deals with the United States in 2026. The phased procurement roadmap for Boeing and Airbus aircraft includes:
Prior Boeing Agreement (April 30, 2026): Under the initial agreement signed in Dhaka between Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Boeing, consent was established to acquire 14 Boeing aircraft.
Recent Boeing Agreement (September 23, 2026): The government finalized an additional agreement with the US-based manufacturer to purchase 11 more Boeing aircraft, bringing the total Boeing order to 25.
New Airbus Agreement (October 2026): To strengthen European bilateral engagement, 10 French Airbus aircraft are being procured, with the formal deal scheduled for October.
Under the long-term roadmap spanning through FY 2034–35, these Airbus and Boeing jets will be progressively inducted into Biman’s fleet. The primary objectives of this mega-initiative are:
Fleet Modernization: Deploying fuel-efficient, state-of-the-art aircraft across Biman’s international network.
Global Connectivity: Expanding seamless direct air links to the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
Regional Hub Development: Establishing Bangladesh as a premier passenger and air cargo transit hub in South Asia.
