A criminal case has been registered at the Airport Police Station against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Major (Retd) Akhteruzzaman following allegations of causing disorder, obstructing public servants from discharging their duties, illegally recording video in restricted zones, and physically assaulting senior airport officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
The lawsuit was formally lodged by Airport Security Officer Md. Shahriar Alam Sojib.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident unfolded on Thursday (October 1, 2026) in the airport’s customs and baggage belt area following a delay in baggage delivery for Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-338 arriving from Madinah, which sparked anger among arriving passengers.
Misconduct with Executive Director: As tensions escalated, Airport Executive Director Group Captain S. M. Rageeb Samad arrived at the scene to restore order. According to the FIR, Major (Retd) Akhteruzzaman behaved aggressively toward the Executive Director and verbally threatened him with physical violence.
Assault on Security Officer: When Security Supervisor Warrant Officer Mohammad Kamal Uddin attempted to prevent Akhteruzzaman from filming inside a restricted high-security zone, the Jamaat leader physically assaulted the security official.
Disturbance and Vandalism: The FIR further alleges that Akhteruzzaman hurled Zamzam water bottles belonging to fellow passengers, creating panic in the arrival terminal, while displaying hostile behavior toward ground handling staff representing Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
