Expressing strong dissatisfaction over law and order, healthcare crises, government corruption, and the harassment of party lawmakers, Leader of the Opposition and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, declared that if the government cannot guarantee peace and safety for its people, authority should be handed over to those capable of fulfilling it. Addressing a rally as the chief guest at Madhubag Ground in Dhaka on Sunday (October 4, 2026) to kick off nationwide Dengue Awareness Week, the Jamaat chief delivered a blistering critique of current administration policies.
During the gathering, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman voiced serious concerns across several key national matters:
Failure to Maintain Order & Peace: Issuing a direct warning, the Jamaat Ameer stated: “We will wake them up with a push. A government under which citizens cannot sleep peacefully is simply not needed. Handing over responsibility to those capable of executing it is the only path forward.”
Airport Incident & Retired Major Akhtaruzzaman: Denouncing the harassment of Jamaat MPs at the airport and calling the charges against Retired Major Akhtaruzzaman “a thousand percent false,” Dr. Shafiqur Rahman asserted that Akhtaruzzaman committed no crime. Describing him as the voice of the oppressed nationwide, he urged citizens and expatriates alike not to take the incident lightly.
Dengue Crisis & Collapsed Healthcare: Terming the prevailing dengue situation an “epidemic,” he stated that healthcare institutions alongside various national bodies stand severely degraded, adding that public representatives have failed to ensure basic health services.
Firm Stance Against Corruption: Highlighting widespread corruption, the opposition leader affirmed: “If the public’s money is stolen at every turn and dock, we will no longer remain silent bystanders.”
