RJ Mitte, the celebrated American actor and disability rights advocate who achieved global acclaim for his iconic portrayal of Walter White Jr. in the legendary television series Breaking Bad, has passed away at the age of 34.
British broadcaster BBC and international news agency Associated Press (AP) confirmed that the actor was pronounced dead at his residence in Brownsville, Texas, on Monday (October 12, 2026).
‘Breaking Bad’ and Global Recognition: Mitte starred as Walter White Jr. (the son of Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston) across all five seasons of AMC’s critically acclaimed, Emmy-winning drama Breaking Bad from 2008 to 2013. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy in real life, Mitte authentically brought his personal lived experience to the screen, earning a prestigious Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award nomination alongside the cast in 2014.
Disability Advocacy and The Mitte Foundation: Beyond acting, Mitte was a tireless activist for disability representation and inclusion within the entertainment industry and society at large. He served as a celebrity ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Hospitals for Children, and established ‘The Mitte Foundation’ to support social welfare initiatives.
Investigation and Medical Examination: Cameron County Justice of the Peace Cindy Hinojosa stated that Mitte’s body was discovered at his home on October 12. The Brownsville Police Department informed the BBC that an investigation and autopsy are underway to determine the exact cause of death, though initial assessments indicate no signs of foul play.
