Reports alleging that State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain has been instructed to resign from the Cabinet are completely false, fabricated, and politically motivated, according to an official statement from his office. In a press release issued on Sunday night (October 18, 2026), the State Minister’s Public Relations Officer, Mahfuz Kabir Mukta, strongly rejected the rumors circulating on social media and digital outlets.
The controversy stems from an incident on Saturday night (October 17, 2026), when State Minister Ishraque Hossain, accompanied by personal associates, led an anti-drug drive in Old Dhaka’s Gendaria area. During the raid, six individuals were detained and handed over to local police. However, viral video footage showing the State Minister and his associates displaying firearms during the drive sparked widespread public debate and scrutiny over the legality of brandishing weapons in public operations.
