Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to pay a four-day official state visit to Tokyo from October 26 to 29, aimed at bolstering bilateral trade, investment, infrastructure development, and strategic cooperation between Bangladesh and Japan.
Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam officially confirmed the finalized schedule and strategic objectives of the high-profile visit during a press briefing held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday afternoon (October 20).
Signing of 8 Bilateral MoUs: Bangladesh and Japan are set to sign at least eight Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) spanning bilateral trade, economic partnership, physical infrastructure, information technology, and mega-project financing.
High-Level Delegation: The Foreign Secretary indicated that, schedule permitting, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, will join Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as a key member of the delegation.
Expanding Trade & Investment Horizons: A joint business forum featuring leading business executives from Tokyo and Dhaka will be hosted during the visit to showcase emerging investment opportunities for Japanese enterprises in Bangladesh.
Independent Foreign Policy & China Comparison: Addressing media queries comparing the Prime Minister’s recent trip to China with his upcoming Tokyo visit, Foreign Secretary Siam emphasized Bangladesh’s non-aligned stance: “Bangladesh does not compare its relations with one nation against another. We attach the highest priority to our bilateral and multilateral partnerships with every nation independently.”
