In a major bid to expand export horizons and attract international buyers, Bangladesh has decided to participate in 50 international trade fairs across 27 countries in the current 2026–27 fiscal year (FY27). The outreach campaign will prioritize exhibitions highlighting products from 12 key growth sectors.
The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting at the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) headquarters in Dhaka.
According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce, the meeting also set January 1, 2027, as the opening date for the upcoming 31st edition of the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF).
Presiding over the meeting, Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir highlighted the financial constraints facing emerging businesses. He noted that many entrepreneurs, particularly those operating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), lack the resources needed to explore foreign markets independently. Participating in government-backed international trade fairs will provide these businesses with vital platforms to build global networks and secure overseas trade deals.
Identifying high-potential industries, the Minister stated that sectors such as leather and leather goods, light engineering, and agro-processing possess strong potential to achieve double-digit export growth.
Pointing out that today’s corporate giants originated as small enterprises, Muktadir stressed the importance of nurturing new entrepreneurs and startup founders to drive future economic expansion. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating red tape, streamlining regulatory processes, and fostering a business- and investment-friendly ecosystem nationwide.
