Prominent Turkish conglomerate Sanko Group plans to invest $300 million in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) in Mirsarai, Chattogram, to set up an integrated textile production facility targeted at both domestic and international markets.
A delegation from Sanko Group expressed their interest during a meeting with Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir at his Secretariat office in Dhaka today.
Currently, Sanko supplies fabric to Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) sector via exports from Turkey. However, to scale up operations, the company aims to establish a local manufacturing footprint in Bangladesh to produce high-value-added fabrics.
With a site already selected in the Mirsarai economic zone, the company intends to begin operations within the next 12 to 18 months, provided necessary utility and policy support are ensured by the government, according to a press statement from the Ministry of Commerce.
