Iran has delivered a severe warning that any new military strikes from the United States will trigger retaliation targeting energy infrastructure across the entire region. As a strategy to deter military action by U.S. President Donald Trump, Tehran conveyed this message directly to Washington’s closest Gulf allies.
Diplomatic sources revealed that this warning was communicated during a flurry of high-level diplomatic phone calls shortly after President Trump threatened to strike Iran’s energy network and infrastructure on July 28.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi spoke with his counterparts in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Qatar, as well as Pakistan’s army chief. During these discussions, he urged Washington’s regional allies to leverage their influence with Trump to dissuade him from initiating new strikes. Simultaneously, he warned that any attack on Iran would prompt retaliatory strikes on U.S. military bases and energy facilities throughout the Gulf region.
According to a Gulf diplomatic source, Iran’s message was unequivocal: if America targets its infrastructure, Tehran will respond by striking key energy facilities and other strategic targets across the Gulf.
The message conveyed by Iran clearly stated, “We are fully prepared to retaliate, but finding a diplomatic solution is the best way to avoid widespread destruction across the region.”
To preserve regional stability, neighboring nations stepped in to mediate:
Saudi Arabia’s Role: Recognizing the severity of the crisis, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke with President Trump, urging him to delay military action. He emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire, negotiations, and a diplomatic settlement.
Other Mediating Nations: Qatar, Oman, and Saudi Arabia jointly called on Washington to resume talks with Tehran, warning that continued U.S. strikes could “turn the region into a fireball.”
Following this diplomatic pressure, President Donald Trump stated on August 2 that he agreed to cancel the planned military strikes on Iran, subject to rapidly reaching a deal.
