White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is stepping down from her position, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on social media. Trump announced that Leavitt will vacate the press secretary role at the end of this month and subsequently transition into a senior advisory position outside the White House. News agency AFP reported the development on Thursday.
At 28, Leavitt is the youngest chief spokesperson in U.S. history. After serving as the primary spokesperson for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, she was appointed Press Secretary. Known as an intensely loyal aide, Leavitt earned widespread recognition for her articulate, assertive demeanor during often heated White House press briefings.
Writing on social media, President Trump stated, “Karoline Leavitt is an extraordinary Press Secretary and one of my most trusted advisors. She will be stepping down at the end of the month to spend more time with her young children and family. However, Karoline will continue to serve as one of my top advisors on the outside and remain a powerful voice within the Republican Party.”
Leavitt recently returned to work following maternity leave after the birth of her second child, Viviana, in May. Her resignation decision comes just weeks after resuming her duties. On social media, Leavitt shared that balancing the grueling demands of the job made it difficult to be the mother her two young children deserved.
Expressing gratitude following the President’s statement, Leavitt remarked, “I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to hold the liberal media accountable and share the truth about President Trump’s achievements with the American people.” During her tenure as Press Secretary, daily press briefings were fully reinstated at the White House press room.
