US President Donald Trump has declared that “large and powerful” US air and missile strikes remain underway targeting various Iranian military assets near the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement posted on social media platform Truth Social on Tuesday (September 1, 2026), Trump stated that the military operation was launched in response to Iran’s attempts to lay sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz and an Iranian strike firing eight missiles toward a US military base in Jordan. He claimed that all eight missiles aimed at the base in Jordan were successfully intercepted by US air defenses and added that no active naval mines currently remain in the waterway.
Issuing a stern warning to Tehran, Trump cautioned that if Iran attempts to retaliate against these “fair and righteous” strikes, it will face far higher-grade and more devastating blows. He added that the main and largest attack has yet to be executed, warning that once carried out, “very little will be left of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Iranian state media reported a series of heavy explosions in the southern coastal city of Bandar Abbas, Shiraz, and surrounding islands. Subsequently, US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed in a statement that precision strikes had targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) air defense systems, radar facilities, military hardware, and mine-laying infrastructure.
