The death toll in Nepal from devastating flash floods, torrential mudflows, and massive landslides across the Himalayan region has surged to 1,093. Authorities fear the casualty figure will rise further as thousands of people remain unaccounted for.
More than 10,000 personnel from the Nepalese Army and Police have been deployed in joint rescue and relief operations, joined by international specialist search-and-rescue teams from India, China, South Korea, and other nations. Rescue workers are utilizing advanced drones, aerial surveillance, and heavy earth-moving equipment to intensify searches through meters-deep mud and debris.
According to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, at least 300 buildings and structures have been completely flattened across the hardest-hit districts. Administration officials indicated that restoring destroyed roads, bridges, and hydroelectric infrastructure to bring daily life back to normal could take at least three months.
