Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India.
The high-level bilateral meeting held on Saturday (September 12, 2026) is being viewed as one of the most significant diplomatic exchanges between the two Persian Gulf nations since the escalation of regional hostilities in the Middle East. During the session, both leaders discussed a wide spectrum of bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest.
Official statements from Abu Dhabi highlighted that the discussions centered on de-escalating regional and international tensions, mitigating conflict risks, and strengthening strategic stability across the Middle East. Both leaders underscored the imperative of fostering peace, welfare, and economic opportunities for the region’s populations.
While both delegations affirmed a shared commitment to regional stability, official sources have not confirmed whether any formal bilateral agreements or binding accords were signed during the session.
The summit meeting came immediately after both Iran and the United Arab Emirates co-signed a joint BRICS declaration calling for maximum restraint and diplomatic de-escalation to avert wider conflict in the Middle East.
