Three major American news outlets—CNN, MS NOW, and Politico—have announced a joint lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s administration to challenge the decision revoking their journalists’ White House press credentials.
The media organizations announced on Monday (September 21, 2026) that the emergency lawsuit was being filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. The petition seeks an immediate court order restoring full media access for their journalists to the White House complex.
In a joint statement, the three outlets asserted that their press credentials and security badges were revoked without prior notice or due process simply because the administration objected to their news coverage.
The joint statement emphasized: “The administration holds no legal or constitutional authority to dictate what news media outlets may or may not publish. Failing to challenge this action directly threatens the fundamental right to independent journalism and reporting free from government interference.”
The lawsuit contends that the Trump administration’s actions violate rights protected under the First Amendment (Freedom of the Press) and the Fifth Amendment (Protection of Constitutional Due Process) of the United States Constitution.
