Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus has made an impassioned call to build a sustainable, inclusive, and positive world by combining social business, the innovative power of youth, and modern technology.
He made these remarks as the keynote speaker at a high-level side event titled ‘Social Business, Youth, and Technology’, held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Monday (September 21, 2026).
The special international forum was organized marking the golden jubilee (50 years) of Grameen Bank and the 20th anniversary of its Nobel Peace Prize win. Dr. Khalilur Rahman, President of the United Nations General Assembly, was present alongside Dr. Yunus on the global stage.
Highlighting the profound significance and vast global potential of social business, Dr. Yunus stated: “Business is not merely a mechanism for self-interest or maximizing financial profit; it can also provide a permanent, effective solution to complex societal crises and fundamental human problems.”
He emphasized placing trust in microcredit, social business, and emerging youth leadership, calling for increased international investment in unleashing human potential.
Addressing the same forum, UN General Assembly President Dr. Khalilur Rahman emphasized that the rapid global expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) and modern technologies necessitates an inclusive, equitable, and human-centric governance system. He urged global leaders to ensure that technology serves the welfare of ordinary people without widening societal inequalities.
