In a major move aimed at curbing severe price spikes and global supply deficits, European nations have agreed to release significant volumes of diesel fuel from their strategic reserves into the market. U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the initiative in a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social.
President Trump stated that following discussions with European allies, the release of these petroleum reserves would begin immediately to help stabilize global energy markets.
The decision is expected to provide substantial relief to the global economy and energy commodity markets:
Coordinated G7 Initiative: The announcement follows a joint commitment by leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) nations to immediately initiate a coordinated release of 100 million barrels of crude and refined products from emergency petroleum reserves over the next four months.
Immediate Market Injection: Highlighting that European partners hold robust fuel reserves, Trump affirmed that the release process is commencing immediately to normalize market supply.
Export Restrictions Dismissed: Addressing speculation regarding potential international diesel export bans, the U.S. President clarified: “Such restrictions were never on the table. What Europe has done is a great job.”
