Conflict between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition INDIA bloc has intensified dramatically over the Election Commission of India (ECI). On Thursday morning (October 8, 2026), Delhi Police formally registered First Information Reports (FIRs) against Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and several other senior opposition figures. The charges stem from alleged unauthorized entry and disruption at New Delhi’s Akashvani Bhawan during Tuesday night’s protests. The cases were filed at the New Delhi and Parliament Street police stations.
Earlier, opposition leaders led a massive march toward the ECI headquarters, alleging widespread anomalies and tampering in voter rolls while demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
