All scheduled banks across Bangladesh will remain closed from October 20 to 22 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) on the occasion of the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja. With the regular weekend falling on the following two days—Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24—banking transactions in the country will remain suspended for five consecutive days. However, to compensate for the holiday gap, all scheduled banks will remain open and conduct normal banking operations on Saturday, October 17.
Bangladesh Bank’s Banking Regulation and Policy Department (BRPD) issued an official circular to this effect on Monday (October 12, 2026).
Major highlights from the central bank’s directive regarding holiday schedules and port operations include:
5 Consecutive Days of Banking Closure: Aligning with the government’s general holiday declarations, all scheduled banks will observe holidays on October 20, 21, and 22 for Durga Puja. Coupled with the weekend holidays on October 23 and 24, institutional banking over counter services will be closed for five days.
Special Working Day on Saturday, October 17: To ensure smooth financial activities and compensate for mid-week closures, Bangladesh Bank instructed all scheduled bank branches to operate under standard business hours on Saturday, October 17, offering full customer transaction services.
Special Provisions for Port and Customs Areas: The central bank issued separate guidelines for bank branches and booths operating in seaport, land port, and airport (port and customs) zones. To keep import-export trade unhindered, these specialized booths will remain operational on a limited scale during the holidays in consultation with local administrative and customs authorities.
