President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for greater emphasis on expanding technical and technological education alongside conventional academia to eliminate unemployment and transform the youth into a skilled workforce.
The President made the remarks on Monday (September 21, 2026) during a courtesy call by a delegation from Jagannath University (JnU), led by its Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rais Uddin, at Bangabhaban.
During the meeting, the President inquired about the university’s overall academic activities and reviewed the progress of JnU’s under-construction second campus in Keraniganj. He urged university authorities to elevate the standard of higher education to international levels and foster a research-oriented academic environment.
JnU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Md. Rais Uddin briefed the President on current academic programs and future plans. He emphasized that proficiency in multiple languages alongside standard degrees is essential for students to thrive in global competition and international job markets. To this end, he highlighted the university’s initiative to offer specialized language proficiency courses and place special focus on “third language” education.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor formally handed over an invitation letter to the President to attend the upcoming Jagannath University convocation in his capacity as Chancellor.
