Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, former adviser and spokesperson for the National Citizen Party (NCP), has demanded the full retraction of media reports published regarding corruption allegations against him within 24 hours. He also urged the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to take active steps to retract the misleading media coverage derived from statements made by its officials.
Speaking at an emergency press conference held at the NCP headquarters on Wednesday (September 2, 2026), Asif Mahmud alleged that stereotyped, politically motivated allegations were being circulated without concrete evidence to defame him socially and politically.
Refuting allegations of trade-offs in promotions and transfers, Asif Mahmud clarified that all administrative promotions and official decisions during his tenure as an adviser were strictly conducted in compliance with government regulations and Public Service Commission (PSC) procedures. Highlighting inconsistencies within the investigative body, he noted that an ACC deputy director initially claimed to media outlets that preliminary evidence had been found, only to later send WhatsApp messages requesting the press not to publish the story—a move he cited as proof that no solid evidence exists. Equating the tactic to the “old playbooks of political harassment” practiced under the former Awami League regime, Asif Mahmud warned that legal action would be initiated if the reports are not retracted within 24 hours.
