SpaceX has officially finalized its acquisition of the AI-powered coding assistant platform Cursor. According to media reports, the completion follows an option agreement established in April, valuing the high-profile transaction at approximately $60 billion.
The strategic acquisition aims to accelerate AI model training and software automation by directly integrating Cursor’s developer tools into SpaceX’s massive computing infrastructure.
In an official blog post, Cursor stated that joining SpaceX provides unprecedented access to world-class GPU infrastructure, enabling the team to build advanced AI models at a fraction of the previous operational costs. Cursor noted, “SpaceX is building the computing capacity needed to scale intelligence far beyond what exists today. Cursor will be one place where that intelligence becomes useful.”
The acquisition aligns with SpaceX’s broader strategy following its earlier absorption of Elon Musk’s AI enterprise, xAI, and SpaceX’s subsequent transition into a public company. Its expanded datacenter and compute infrastructure now also service major external AI firms, including Anthropic and Google.
Despite joining SpaceX’s global network, Cursor confirmed that its core mission remains unchanged: reducing coding friction for developers to allow more focus on complex problem-solving.
