BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that any elected government is better than an unelected government since it will come to power with the people’s mandate.
He said this at a programme titled “Grantha Adda” on the occasion of former president Ziaur Rahman’s birth anniversary at Jatiya Press Club today.
He said, “We can surely move forward once a democratic structure is established. The elected government will come to power with the people’s mandate. Many problems will be resolved if elections are held after minimum reforms.”
“Nothing should be done hastily. It is not right to create more instability and chaos in society with any super-revolutionary thoughts. We have to be patient if we want to control the instability prevailing here now. We will not do anything that can cause more sufferings,” he also said
He added, “Right now, I will change everything, take control, prevent injustice — but this is not how it actually works. This government is making many mistakes. They will do so because they were not in the government [before], they did not do politics… They have to be given that time.”
The BNP leader said, “We have many issues in Bangladesh, the main one is that our education system has been completely finished. there is nothing left in it. The quality of education has declined everywhere from primary schools to universities. We are not thinking about the fact that there are many educated unemployed people all over the country.”
He added that the interim government formed many reform commissions, but there is no commission regarding education reform, which is needed first of all. “If there is no knowledge, how can I bring any change in the family or society?” he asked.
However, he expressed hope that the chief adviser will engage in discussions with all stakeholders and take decisions regarding the proposals of the reforms.
“We should not be impatient,” he said.
